Hank Stark on L.A.’s Vacation Rentals: “We respect Airbnb — they helped put vacation rentals on the map. But we were here before them, and honestly, the platform has lost its way” 

Hank Stark is candid about Los Angeles’ vacation rental market: overexposure, misleading Airbnb listings, and a growing gap between promise and reality.

While luxury inventory in L.A. is limited to roughly 150 +5 bedrooms villas with pool, most owners list their properties across 50+ platforms — leading to what Stark calls “washed-out, duplicate listing inventory increased foot traffic, and inconsistent guest experiences”

Hank Stark continues, “LA is the leading city in the world when it comes to vacation rentals — the market is still evolving, but it lacks a true standard or backbone. When price becomes the only priority, guests tend to overlook what really matters — like safety, trust, and accuracy. Photos can be deceiving. And when something feels too good to be true in this market, it usually is.”

“We respect Airbnb — they helped put vacation rentals on the map. But we were here before them, and honestly, the platform has lost its way” Stark says. “Most of the unreasonable short-term rental laws today are a direct result of Airbnb’s mismanagement and lack of awareness. That’s why the platform is being banned in major cities around the world.”
